How did you learn, about one of the characters in this section? what did they say/do/think to allow the reader to learn that? explain your thinking.

  1. I think that Marcus is a sarcastic person, by how he remarks lots of examples with stuff happening already, like at the part where he tells his mom how about to send WalMart off to war instead of the military its self (remarking that there are more people in WalMart than the military).

  2. I disagree with you Reshad.

I think Marcus is frustrated. When Marcus said that he was no being sarcastic, He was not making a joke. He was telling his mom about reality and not about jokes. I feel that Marcus is frustrated, non the less scared that something might have happened to his dad.

    Anyways

I think Marcus is grateful/sad at the same time because he himself said "I was happy and guilty"

Because at first he thought that the military personals came to his school to tell him that his dad had died. But they were there for his best "Girl" Friend

And that made him happy that it wasn't his dad but on the other note made him sad that it had to be her dad that has passed away.

  3. I agree with the both of you. I think he is a sarcastic person at heart.

However, I think the stress in his life is causing him to experience a whole swirl of emotions he's not used to. For example, he's dealing with the knowledge that his father could not come home to Marcus and his family; and he is bearing the dreadful feelings of his friends loss who's father has recently died. These are major events which will definitely cause him to feel different emotions than usual.

  4. I agree with all of you. he is obviously frustrated over the constant stress he is under about his Father being in Afghanistan and its likely that thats the only thing on his mind But I also think his "sarcasm" and his jokes is a coping method ,away for him and his family not to talk about their situation. Sitting and waiting around for X number of months and expecting the worst would drive you insane so im sure even the littlest thing to get their mind off of it is helpfull for them.

  6. Well I think the person in my book that I learned most about, would be Marcus. Because I have learned that his roll model is his father because he talks about his father a lot and he brags about his dad being one of the most important person in the army, and says that he wants to grow up to be just like his father. I also agree with Skylar because I think that he is very stressed about his dad having a chance of not coming home, and I think without his dad he will be a wreck because he looks up to him for a lot of things. So I think that is why he is so worried.

  7. I heard, I'm happy Marcus's family can finally stop worrying! Sorry about the late comment, I thought my original went through, silly blogger. This is gonna be so much harder now.

I agree with all of you. Marcus probably is going through a "swirl of emotions" as Hayley said, which is probably giving him a short temper. He is a guilty person like Mateen said, when I read it I felt bad.

Now that his father is home, I feel things will pick up, but knowing that the book is long, I feel things will turn back into the emotional state.
